Contiki horror stories from someone who’s experiencing them right now
Katie Lupton performs a backbend atop Pulpit Rock in Norway. Katie Lupton is living the dream as a Contiki tour manager. What inspired your move to Europe, and how long have you been there? I’d always wanted to travel from hearing my parents’ stories as I was growing up. I’d done a lot myself and the bug had definitely bitten and so ideally I wanted to travel for work. That’s where Contiki came in.
Pay in full 45 days before travel. Old and new, colour and chaos, sticky cities and lush mountain ranges — India is a bustling cacophony of wonderful that blazes a trail in your memory long after you return home. You’ll be hanging hotel side in plush, twin-share hotel rooms fit to refresh and revive you after incredible days exploring India’s magical sights and sounds.
Poolside hangs, fluffy towels and gyms, anyone? All the dizzying sights and delights are included as standard, because for us more is more. Agra Fort and Taj Mahal.
Katie Lupton is living the dream as a Contiki tour manager. Way more than three! 1: Go up – a bell tower, a mountain, a roof top bar – for that extra special view. 2: Get lost – you’re never.
We arrived in Pompeii and met up with our tour guide for the morning. Aside from that, he also gave us a lot of great information on just what happened to this ancient city. The city of Pompeii existed just 5 miles from Mt. In the fateful year of 79 AD, Vesuvius erupted and sent a degree heat wave into the town — the eruption destroyed a population of 20, people instantly, as there was no time to flee.
For about 6 hours after the eruption, it rained down ash about 7 metres worth which preserved the city exactly as it was left. After our tour, we left the ancient city of Pompeii to go to Rome! As soon as we arrived, we wasted no time, and immediately set off to explore the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.
These two areas are less than a 5 minute walk from one another and just jam packed with amazing evidence of what Ancient Rome looked like. The Colosseum was built in the first century, and only took 8 years to build. This was due to the hard work of many slaves who had to help in the construction.
Contiki’s European Discovery
Why you should leave them behind The pair immediately hit it off, and though they were travelling on separate buses, they spent the rest of the trip meeting up and enjoying Europe together. At the end of the tour, they carried things on in England, where Chris was working in a pub on his OE. But soon it was time for Rhonwyn to head back to South Africa for university, and Chris eventually went home to New Zealand.
But we always kept in contact via email and phone calls. They got talking, and it turned out they were both single – and the feelings were still there. I quit my job and packed up my suitcase.

If you are searching for a job with predictability and stability, then keep looking. Tourism is a difficult industry and is not conducive to either. However, if you are looking at getting a job for an amazing life experience, rather than a career advancement, then being a TM with Contiki is absolutely worth looking into.
This is perfect for recent college grads who are looking for a great adventurous entry-level job to help prepare them for management jobs down the road. Things that I really enjoyed about the experience: Cons The job consumes all of your time and you should plan on having little to no free time. The tours are up to 26 days long and you could work up to months straight if it is busy.
The job can be incredibly thankless at times, but that is something that should be expected when working with large groups of people.
Contiki – great fun for open minded young people!
It was a wonderful way to see many cities in a short period of time. Also got to meet a lot of great people. You can party every night but I only partied every 2nd or 3rd night. What I wish I had known: There were more girls than guys-only 4 single guys in our group and about half of them were traveling alone. There were only about 6 couples on this tour, including us.

Once behind the iron curtain and today an emerging capital, Sofia brings together traditional Tsarist architecture and a modern feel. Your Tour Manager will lead a walking tour through this compact town. Hotel Dinner Provided Sofia to Belgrade Day 33 Parked between the Danube and Sava Rivers, Belgrade is a little rough around the edges, mixing up extravagant churches and dull, communist building blocks.
With two cities rolled into one, this exotic town has a bit of everything. Buda and Pest sit on different sides of the river, but bring together the stunning buildings and atmosphere that makes Budapest so romantic. Free time means a chance to treat yourself to a truly local experience:
Jun 30, · As for hooking up,,,, there are no bitch shields, you are on a bus going from city to city for a few hours, so out of boredom even the bitch will even have to be nice to have a conversation with you. Just from experience, you will see a guy for example from canada hook up with a girl from australia etc.
Contiki Sep 24, , 1: First thing first, the people you meet via Contiki Tours are great! It’s an easy way to make new friends BUT everything else is pretty awful. There are other sites like TripAdvisor that will give you reviews very similar to what I am about to give you. The amount of money you pay for this trip is not worth it. The one thing that is more disappointing than the food are the hotel accommodations.
Here is a break down of my complaint I submitted directly to the company. Which they did nothing about. Upon checking in at the Regent Hotel we discovered fecal splatter on the wall behind the toilet as well as maggots in the ceiling light. I realize that this is a 3 star hotel however, that kind of hygienic carelessness is unacceptable. If we had booked this hotel on our own I am sure I could have put a stop on charges via my credit card and moved to another hotel.
Compared to the hotel Regent Hotel this was a huge upgrade.
